Puzzle for December 29, 2009

Yesterday I told you about a box that contained a gift from Santa. It was 8 inches high and had a lid that was 5 inches by 7.

Doing some checking, we found that we could fit 4 packing peanuts in a cubic inch if we stacked them carefully.

What's the maximum number of packing peanuts that could have been in my box? (assuming *they* were the gift)
