Puzzle for September 16, 2008The Chevy Volt is being introduced today. GM says the Volt will get the equivalent of 50 miles per gallon on longer trips where an expected four-cylinder engine will be engaged. But mileage will improve substantially if a person stays within the batteries' 40-mile range. GM designers targeted a 40-mile battery range because most people drive less than that in a day. If the car is driven just in the city, the projected milage is the equivelent of 100 miles per gallon If it costs $3.83 per gallon of gasoline, how much does it cost per mile to drive at the 50 miles per gallon rate? How much would it cost if we drove just in the city (under 40 miles)? ![]() |
